Honolulu City Lights
Photo uploaded by
Our friend Evelyn over at the blog posted a great entry about the once the trees are decked out in their best holiday attire.
The trees in Bishop Square are her favorite, adorned with green, red, and clear lights to perform lovely light shows. The pools of water surrounding the square gives the whole square an environment that greatly enhances the views of the lights.
So, during your visit to Honolulu this holiday season, be sure and enjoy a stroll through the downtown for a beautiful experience of light and reflection. You can also check out this to keep your holiday season busy!

Surfing at Sunset Beach
Photo uploaded by
In many parts of the country, winter means bundling up and playing in the snow. Not in Oahu. Surfers from all the over the world flock to Oahu’s North Shore for winter surfing. Here’s an overview of some of the North Shore’s most famous surfing spots:
is the birthplace of big wave surfing and the site of the Quicksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau Big Wave Memorial. The surf competition pays homage to legendary surfer Eddie Aikau and takes place only when the epic Waimea waves are at least 20 feet high.
is located off Ehukai Beach. The merciless waves of Pipeline break just 50 to 100 yards off the beach over a shallow reef making this one of the most dangerous surf spots in the world. To see the action during contests like the Rip Curl Pro Pipeline Masters, enter through Ehukai Beach Park.
sits on the northernmost surf spot on the North Shore. The long wave-breaks here are the setting for the O’Neill World Cup of Surfing, the second contest in the Vans Triple Crown of surfing. Winter brings big, adrenaline-pumping waves to Sunset Beach. These waves calm down in summer, making the beach ideal for snorkeling or relaxing on the soft, golden sands.
While on the North Shore, you might also check out Dole Plantation or Helemano Plantation.

Since hula dancing originated in Hawai, it’s only fitting that Hawaii would be the site of the 16th Annual World Invitational Hula Festival. Scheduled for November 8, 9, and 10 at the Waikiki Shell, the festival celebrates Hawaiian culture, art, history, and, of course, dance. Participants from all over the world, including Japan, Mexico, Colombia, and the US, will come together in celebration of this beautiful art form, performing both ancient and modern forms of hula. On Sunday, November 4, the festival also features a Ho’olana Hula Workshop.
Tickets start at just $10 for lawn seats. Click here for more information. While visiting Waikiki, you might also check out the Waikiki Trolley, U.S. Army Museum of Hawaii, and the Grand Circle Island Tour.

It’s important for the whole family to have fun while on vacation, so this kid-friendly guide can help with planning your trip to Oahu! From boogie boarding to meeting dolphins and dancing at luaus, this guide will give your kids the true Oahu experience.
Head on down to world-famous Waikiki Beach to take advantage of the sun and ocean! Grab a boogie board, beach umbrella, and chaise lounge and get ready for a day in paradise. Beginner surfers can even get some firsthand tips with an instructor from Hawaiian Ocean’s Surf Lessons.
For even more water-soaked fun, check out the Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park. This park has more water rides than you’ve ever seen, all housed on 25 acres of lush Hawaiian landscape. With rides such as the Kapolei Kooler, The Cliffhanger, and The Volcano Express, kids of all ages are sure to be delighted.
See a dazzling dolphin show at Sea Life Park by Dolphin Discovery, an active volcano on the Diamond Head Crater Hike on Mount Leahi, or experience some hands-on interactive learning at Hawaii Children’s Discovery Center.
The largest maze in the world also lives on the island of Oahu on the Dole Plantation. Have a complete pineapple experience by testing your wits in the maze, riding the Pineapple Express with a historical tour, and then take the garden tour to indulge your senses.
To complete your Oahu experience, your family will love the Polynesian Cultural Center. From canoe rides, to Tongan spear throwing and making jewelry out of native plants, everyone will find a new cultural tradition to love.
Finish your trip by participating in a real Hawaiian luau at the center. Famous for their Ali’i Luau, the experience includes a flower lei greeting, traditional Hawaiian food, music and entertainment, the Hula, and the imu (whole slow-roasted pig) ceremony.
Say Aloha to Oahu!
